Tallulah’s Story
If you can believe it, this gorgeous little 10 year old poodle mix was found wandering the roads of Mississippi. She was quite a bit scragglier then and not feeling at all well. The folks who were kind enough to stop and pick her up were travelling from Texas to Virginia. By the time they reached Richmond however, it was very obvious that if this dog didn’t receive immediate medical attention she would die.
They took her to an emergency center but could not afford her care and signed Miss Tallulah over to the custody of Richmond Animal Care & Control. As you can imagine, city budgets are pretty small and P.A.L. was asked to step in and provide treatment for this ailing dog. Thanks to our Special Surgeries Fund we could!
It was unclear from Tallulah’s physical exam exactly what was medically wrong with her. We could only be certain that she had several large masses in her abdomen. Dr. Asbury performed an exploratory surgery and discovered that Tallulah had multiple inguinal hernias, one of which was so large that her right uterine horn had passed through. Sadly, in the strangled portion of the uterus Dr. Asbury found a retained fetus that had already passed away. He was able to repair all of Tallulah’s hernias, spay her, and pull several damaged teeth. Tallulah was fostered by a P.A.L. volunteer for several weeks, given antibiotics and lots of love until she was fully recovered.
Tallulah has now been placed in a loving permanent home, has two little feline brothers, and has become quite the little daddy’s girl.
