A Brand New Beginning - The Pregnancy Centers of Central Virginia

The Pregnancy Centers of Central Virginia (PCCV) has over 2,800 visits per year. Here is the story of one recent client. “Joleesa” was 23 weeks pregnant and had just broken up with her baby’s father. Joleesa wanted to talk about options, stating she really didn’t want to abort, and didn’t know what was available to her.

Understandably, she felt badly about bringing a baby into a situation filled with drama and “she wasn’t going to be a statistic.” She briefly had considered adoption, but the weight of her own lifelong foster care experience seemed to turn her away from that choice. When her counselor shared all the ways the PCCV could support her, including getting her into a maternity home about an hour away, she was amazed. “I had no idea there was this much help. That’s cool – I was feeling overwhelmed!”

When asked how she would feel living away from Charlottesville with a community of other women, she said “It might help me move on.” Her counselor encouraged her. Joleesa is now set on making this work with her baby, and we are finalizing housing options as she seeks a job and greater stability. She was a little teary-eyed to be reminded that when it seems everything is crashing down in life, it’s really not the end, but a brand new beginning. We talked about her remaining needs, big and small. She left with real hope and a plan for the next several steps in this budding journey.
