Homeowner Avoids Foreclosure with the Help of Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia
James Beggs spent more than two decades in the U.S. Navy carrying out damage control for aircraft carriers and never imagined that one of his biggest damage control challenges would be saving his own home.
After retiring from the military, life was predictable and good. Beggs got married, started a family and bought a home.
However, circumstances changed drastically in 2008 when the economy spiraled into recession. Beggs had trouble paying his mortgage. Collection agents called and foreclosure was a frightening possibility.
Fortunately the Navy veteran was referred to Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia where financial counselors took swift action to avoid foreclosure.
“The people at Catholic Charities really cared about helping me and my family. I can’t thank them enough,” said Beggs. “They showed that they really know about damage control when it comes to saving people’s homes.”
In the same way as it helped James Beggs, Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia has been helping the people of Hampton Roads since 1932. It helps people of every race, religion and background when they face a crisis and need help.
In addition to financial and housing counseling, its programs include debt and credit counseling, family and individual counseling for adults, teens and children, marital counseling, addiction counseling, adoption, foster care, pregnancy counseling, and family enrichment programs.
