Virginia Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom
“I think the good thing about Ag in the Classroom is that it is very applicable to the Virginia Standards of Learning and there are a lot of connections you can make to the Standards of Learning while also incorporating agriculture.” ~ Amy, Hanover County Elementary Teacher
Amy is a veteran teacher currently working in Hanover County. As a Teacher of the Year, she is respected by her colleagues and administration. Amy has been using Agriculture in the Classroom (AITC) lessons and resources in her classroom for more than seven years. Her students love the interactive lessons and enjoy the books and materials while she loves having interesting, SOL-aligned lesson plans and materials that make learning fun and productive for her students.
Many Virginians, including our children, are generations removed from the family farm and have little knowledge of agriculture. AITC has been connecting farms to classrooms through education for almost 20 years. With AITC lessons students learn math, science, social studies and language arts as they learn about agriculture. AITC provides PreK-8 teachers and pre-service teachers with training, SOL-aligned lessons and great classroom resources so they can incorporate agriculture into the classroom curriculums. All AITC services are provided at no cost so the program is accessible to all teachers and school divisions.
Support Agriculture in the Classroom – CVC #3083 – and help provide teachers with great classroom resources and educate the next generation about where their food and fiber comes from!
