Making A Difference

CHIP of Greater Richmond

CHIP of Greater RichmondAt the time of her enrollment to the CHIP program, Anne was new to this country, a single mother of three, pregnant and caring for her youngest sister.  Having endured constant abuse while in her native country, poor health care and limited income, she was faced with cultural, lingual, financial and educational challenges.  Anne had never delivered a child in a medical facility and was not accustomed to prenatal appointments or tests.  Anne did not understand why she could not leave her children home, once it was time to delivery her new baby - after all, she would be right back.  Despite these overwhelming barriers, Anne welcomed her CHIP team with open arms and unwavering trust- a trust that was equally alarming as it was a privilege.  The latter proving to be very true as her baby’s heart rate dangerously dropped during delivery.  Anne's CHIP team stayed by her side during her daunting ordeal and, in spite of an emergency C-section and an unforeseen blood transfusion, Anne and baby Celeste (name changed for privacy) were able to experience a positive birth outcome.  Anne's motivation to provide for her family, her desire to learn and follow through with guidance provided, unconditional trust and appreciation makes her a shining example of how CHIP can help families through any situation.

Children's Health Involving Parents (CHIP) of Greater Richmond is a recognized CVC charity: CVC code # 3520
