Children, Youth & Family Services’ Runaway Emergency Services Program Counsels Teens in Trouble
Did you know that the majority of runaway kids use drugs, and that a third of runaways become involved with prostitution? Listen to Billy’s story.
Billy was just twelve years old when his life became unbearable. He had been living with Dad since his parents divorced, but Dad paid very little attention to Billy. Sometimes, he even forgot to buy food, and Billy was often left home alone. Billy moved back with his Mom, who seemed to be winning her battle with drug addiction. But problems developed, and Billy was ready to run away. He had even thought about suicide. Mom started looking for help and found the Runaway Emergency Services Program at Children, Youth & Family Services.
Through art and talk therapy sessions with these experienced counselors, Billy began to learn how to cope with all of the turmoil in his life. He not only adjusted, he thrived.
Children, Youth & Family Services was there for Billy when he needed help because of the support of state employees across the Commonwealth.
Billy worked with the counselors at Children, Youth & Family Services to learn how to cope with the turmoil in his life. He is now doing well at home and in school and has made new friends while his grades improved.
